Attorney Lorin M. Duckman of Staten Island, NY; misogynist, ethical twerp

The state of New York presented Lorin M. Duckman with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from New York Law School.

For approximately six years, Lorin Duckman sat as a Judge of the New York City Criminal Court in Kings County. During his tenure on the bench, the Judicial Commission found Duckman guilty of engaging in a pattern of misconduct, some of which is as follows:
  • Disparaging name-calling of young prosecutors
  • Repeatedly abused the power of his office
  • Exhibited a personal bias against the prosecution
  • Willfully disregarded the law
  • Displayed an intemperate demeanor (nasty)
Specific instances of Duckman’s improper comments:
  • “Oh, you’re just too sexy too wear flats. There’s nothing like a well-turned heel.”
  • Told assistant DA that skirt she wore day before was “much too long” and skirt she was wearing the, which was above the knee, “looks much better on you”
  • Asked Court Officer if she knew why defendants were late to court. When she said “No,” Duckman said, “Because they’re on CP time.” When she asked what CP meant, Duckman said, “You know, color people’s time. You know, they have to take the train and come from the projects which make them late.”
  • In an assault case involving two African-American women, Duckman told the DA who was also an African-American “At the risk of sounding racist and sexist, this is really just two women, and you know sometimes certain things are just cultural.”
As a consequence of his serial misconduct that took place over a five-year period of time, the Judicial Commission punished Duckman by ordering that he be removed from the bench.

As we speak (ca. March 2012) Duckman practices law with the Law Offices of Neal Wiesner at 80 Bay Street in Staten Island.
