Attorney John Hicks of Galena, OH; greedy slacker

The state of Ohio presented John Michael Hicks with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from Capitol University School of Law.

FYI: Capitol University School of Law is ranked as the 161st best law school in the country out of 200 ABA (American Bar Association) accredited law schools.

The Disciplinary Counsel of the Ohio Supreme Court found Johnny guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Johnny asked and received $7,428.32 check for his fees without first receiving court approval
  • When probate court only approved $5,000 of the $7,428.32 Johnny received from his client, he failed to advise the client of the $2,428.32 reduction and failed to refund the setoff to the estate
  • After receipt of estate tax check from client, Johnny failed to pay the estate taxes, which then led to the estate being assessed a $2,834.745 late-payment penalty and $65 7.0 4in interest charges
  • Failed on numerous occasions to return client phone calls
  • Probate court had to issue Johnny two reminders to file an accounting for an estate
  • Failed to obtain prior probate court approval in demanding an additional $3,714.16 in fees/costs from his client
  • Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  • Failed to make restitution
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct that adversely reflects upon fitness to practice law
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Knowingly disobeyed an obligation under the rules of a tribunal
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Engaged in illegal practice of law while license suspended for failing to comply with attorney-registration requirements
  • Failed to advise client his license had been suspended

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Stan by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. January 2020) Stan practices with The Law Office of John Michael Nicks LLC at 10933 Vans Valley Road in Galena, Ohio.
