Attorney Jamie-Lou McKinney of Syracuse, NY; ethical troll

The state of New York presented Jamie-Lou McKinney with a law license in 1990 after she graduated from Syracuse University School of Law.

The Judicial Department Committee on Professional Standards found Jamie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Counseled or assisted a client to engage in conduct she knew to be illegal or fraudulent
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Represented a client in a matter in wherein a reasonable lawyer would conclude that the representation involved matters with a client or clients with conflicting interests
  • Failed to obtain from each affected client informed consent, confirmed in writing regarding conflict of interest matter
  • Entered into business transaction with a client wherein she and client had differing interests and
  • Misappropriated [stole] funds belonging to another person that were received incident to her practice of law and
  • Commingled personal funds with funds belong to a third party
  • Made withdrawals from her trust account using a method other than check payable to a named payee or bank transfer with prior written approval of the party entitled to the proceeds
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness as a lawyer

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Professional Standards Committee punished Jamie by gifting her with a complimentary 2-year suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. McKinney 2019), Jamie practices with the McKinney Law Office at 415 West Onondaga Street in Syracuse, New York.
