Attorney Ruthanne Sanchez of Watertown, NY; slacker, serial offender

The state of New York presented Ruthanne Sanchez with a law license in 1987 after she graduated from Syracuse University School of Law.

The Judicial Department Committee on Professional Standards found Ruth guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to abide by a client's decisions concerning the objectives of representation
  • Failed to consult with the client as to the means by which they are to be accomplished
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Neglected legal matter entrusted to her
  • Failed to inform a client in a prompt manner of a material development in a matter including settlement or plea offers
  • Failed to reasonably consult with a client about the means by which the client's objectives are to be accomplished
  • Failed to keep a client reasonably informed about the status of a matter
  • Failed to comply in a prompt manner with a client's reasonable requests for information
  • Failed to communicate to a client the scope of the representation and the basis or rate of the fee and expenses for which the client will be responsible, including any changes thereto
  • Failed to provide to a client in a domestic relations matter itemized billing statements at 60-day intervals
  • Failed to provide to a client in a domestic relation matter a written retainer agreement setting forth the nature of services to be rendered
  • Caused harm and/or prejudicie to several clients

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Ruth’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. She previously received seven (7) complimentary letters of caution and two (2) admonitions for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Professional Standards Committee punished Ruth by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. September2019), Ruth practices at 200 Washington Street in Watertown, New York.
