Attorney Raymond Osterbye of Keansburg, NJ; serial offender 

 

 

The state of New Jersey presented Raymond Charles Osterbye with a law license in 2013 after he graduated from Rutgers University School of Law.

 

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics found Ray guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

 

Ray’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to comply with mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) requirements

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Ray by gifting him with a complimentary suspension of his law license until he complied with the MCLE mandates.

 

Ray’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to comply with mandatory IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers Trust Account) program

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Ray by gifting him with a complimentary suspension of his law license until he complied with the IOLTA mandates.

  • Failed to fully satisfy requirements regarding annual assessment to the New Jersey Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Ray by gifting him with a complimentary 21-day suspension of his law license.

Ray’s 10th bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Negligent misappropriation (theft) of client funds
  • Failed to promptly disburse funds to third parties involving real estate closings
  • Failed to comply with mandatory recordkeeping provisions
  • Made false or misleading communications about his legal services
  • Engaged in putting forth false or misleading advertisement
  • Failed to fully and/or timely cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Ray!)
  • Failed to prepare three-way reconciliations of his attorney trust accounts
  • Audit revealed more than twenty (20) separate recordkeeping deficiencies
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Ray by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

As we speak (ca. August 2020), Ray practices with the Law Offices of Raymond C. Osterbye at 208 Main Street in Keansburg, New Jersey.
