Attorney William Magee of Covington, LA; serial fraudster
The state of Louisiana presented William M. Magee with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Louisiana State University School of Law.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Billy guilty of the following misconduct.
-
Improperly executed and notarized false quitclaim deeds
-
Used false and deceptive practices in three separate transactions to obtain St. Tammany Parish properties belonging to absentee owners
-
Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
-
Created fictitious quitclaim deeds to transfer the properties from his corporation, Hickory Glade, to himself, effectively acting as seller and purchaser in the transactions in which no money was involved
-
Obtained default judgments that declared him owner, he sold the properties to a third party, who in turn transferred lots to the eventual complainants as home sites
-
Owners later endured difficulties trying to sell what they thought was their property as Magee's quitclaim deeds created clouds on their titles
As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 6-month suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. June 2019), Billy practices his brand of law with Magee & Devereux in Covington, Louisiana.
