Attorney William Norine of Grantsburg, WI; ethical troll

The state of Wisconsin presented William L. Norine with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Marquette University School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Registration (OLR) found Billy guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was serving as the District Attorney for Burnett County in Siren, Wisconsin.

  • Communicated via Facebook to multiple women who had pending criminal cases in Burnett County
  • In communicating with women with pending criminal matters, Billy sought lunch, dinner or drink dates, used personal endearments and made improper inducements
  • In one matter, Billy offered to buy dinner and “compare notes” with a woman who had a pending Burnett County criminal case as well as a pending Child in Need of Protection or Services (CHIPS) case, who stated she was desperate to get her children back
  • In second matter, Billy told another woman with pending criminal matter that she was a “wonderful beautiful person” who inspired him, and he offered to pay her phone bill if she “had time to meet”
  • In Facebook messages, called one woman “Babe” and at one point paid for 3 Gigabytes of data on her cell phone, and when she told Billy that was worried about a new pending charge and anticipated sentence of probation, he advised her not to worry as “We usually take a non-criminal ordinance plea on those No probation
  • Engaged in numerous conflicts of interest involving women who had criminal matters pending
  • Repeatedly sought dinner, lunch or drink dates with women facing criminal charges in Burnett County
  • Failed to withdraw from criminal prosecutions when withdrawal was mandatory

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme Court punished Billy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Billy practices at 513 North Pine Street in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
