Attorney Mervin Phillips  of Saskatchewan, CAN; ethical gnome

The Law Society of Saskatchewan presented Mervin Clayton Phillips with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from University of Saskatchewan School of Law.

The Law Society of Saskatchewan Disciplinary Committee found Mervin guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to be frank an candid with client re: anticipated costs of legal matter
  • Failed to serve client in a conscientious, diligent and efficient manner
  • Spent unnecessary time in connection with client issues that the client had instructed him to abandon
  • Made unnecessary and excessive personal attendances at his office
  • Charged a fee that was not fully disclosed, fair and reasonable [cheater]

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Upper Law Society Committee punished Mervin by gifting him a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license and assessed him with $13,986.84 in costs of the ethics investigation.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Mervin practices with Phillips & Co. LPA at 2100 Scarth Street in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
