Judge Gregory Ong of Philippines; ethical gremlin

The Philippine Supreme Court provided Gregory S. Ong with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from the University of the Philippines School of Law.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines found Greg guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to accept the indispensability of collegiality to the valid conduct in trial proceedings
  • Failed to carry out his judicial duties with appropriate consideration for all persons, such as the parties, witnesses, lawyers, court staff, and judicial colleagues, without differentiation on any irrelevant ground, immaterial to the proper performance of such duties
  • Failed to avoid situations that may reasonably give rise to the suspicion or appearance of favoritism or partiality in his personal relations with individual members of the legal profession who practice regularly before him
  • Publicizing professional qualifications or boasting of having studied in and graduated from certain law schools, no matter how prestigious, might have even revealed, on the part of Justice Ong, his bias for or against some lawyers

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Republic of the Philippines Supreme Court punished Greg by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Greg continues to sit as a Fourth Division judge in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines.
