Attorney Erlinda Espejo of Philippines; check bouncing deadbeat

The Philippine Supreme Court provided Erlinda B. Espejo with a law license in 1979 after she graduated from the University of the Philippines School of Law.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines found Erlinda guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in gross misconduct
• Violated the Lawyer’s Oath due to the latter’s failure to pay a loan
• Issued worthless checks [rubber]
• Deliberately failed to pay just debts
• Failed to faithfully perform her duties to society, the bar, the courts and her clients
• The fact that Erlinda obtained the loan and issued the worthless checks in her private capacity and not as an attorney is of no moment

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Republic of the Philippines Supreme Court punished Erlinda by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.
