Attorney Jerry Clayton of Durham, NC; ethical troll

The state of North Carolina provided Jerry B. Clayton with a law license in 1970 after he graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School.

The Committee on Professional Conduct found Jerry guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to ensure that law firm’s trust account was timely reconciled
  • Made numerous inaccurate statements to the State Bar concerning reconciliations of the trust account based upon information submitted by the firm member
  • Jerry’s firm did not have any quarterly reconciliations for the firm's trust account for the preceding year
  • His firm had only three monthly reconciliations for the firm's trust account for the preceding year
  • The firm had not identified the client for which cash deposits were made into the trust account
  • Firm occasionally failed to indicate on trust account checks the  client from whose funds in the trust account the trust account check was drawn

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Jerry by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. July 2019) Jerry practices with Clayton and Myrick PLLC in Durham, North Carolina.
