Judge Emory Plitt Jr. of Bel Air, MD; ethical gnome

The state Maryland presented Emory Alvin Plitt Jr. with a law license in 1968 after she graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

The Commission on Judicial Disabilities found Judge Plitt guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was acting as a retired visiting judge on assignment from the Maryland Supreme Court.

  • While appearing in court for traffic offense failed to advise the trial judge that he was acting as a visiting retired judge in the same county, something he was mandated to disclose
  • Failed to comply with the law
  • Failed to perform duties to promote public’s confidence in the judiciary
  • Allowed personal interests to effect his judicial decisions
  • Failed tocooperate with other judges and court officials in the administration of court business
  • Engaged in illegal ex part (one-sided) communications with a litigant’s attorney

As a direct consequence of his misconduct and lying, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Maryland Supreme Court punished Judge Plitt by gifting him with a complimentary private reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2019), Judge Plitt continues to sit as a visiting Hartford County Circuit Court Judge in Bel Air, Maryland.
