Judge Leticia Ramirez of New York City; ethical gremlin

The state of New York presented Leticia Maria Ramirez with a law license in 2000 after she graduated from the Brooklyn School of Law.

It should be noted that Leticia has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past eighteen years since she graduated from law school. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater New York City area was about to offer Leticia a good paying job.

The Judicial Commission found Leticia guilty of the following misconduct.

• Lent prestige of judicial office to advance her private interests
• Wrote letter on behalf of her childhood babysitter to vacate her conviction
• Wrote two affirmations on son’s behalf in connection with his criminal case
• In appellate court filing on son’s behalf, identified herself as a judge
• Conduct was clearly inconsistent with well-established ethical standards
• Described babysitter as “part of my family,” referred to her presence at family functions and photos, and provide details of their close relationship over several decades in filing motion seeking to have her criminal conviction vacated
• Abused her judicial position in seeking to obtain favors from judges regarding criminal convictions of son and close family friend

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Leticia by gifting her with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. February 2019) Leticia continues to sit as a Supreme Court judge in New York, New York.
