Judge James McDermott of Chestertown, NY; ethical gremlin

The New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Jimmy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to account for receipt of over $15,000 in court funds
  • Failed to promptly remit unaccounted funds of $15,000 to the person or agency entitled to same
  • Incapable of identifying over $10,000 held in his court bank account
  • Unable to identify source of the majority of the $10,000 held in his court bank account
  • Court’s accounting procedures were inadequate
  • Failed to ensure that records kept by the court clerks were accurate or corresponded with the supporting documentation

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. January 2019) Jimmy continues to sit as a Justice of the Chester Town Court, Warren County in Chestertown, New York.
