Attorney Joseph Altman of Rockingham, NC; liar, repeat offender

 

The state of North Carolina provided Joseph Eric Altman with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law.

 

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Joey guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Joey’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to appear at court-scheduled hearing on client’s behalf
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Held in criminal contempt of court for failure to appear at court hearing
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to respond to defendant’s counterclaim on client’s behalf
  • Failed to respond to requests for admissions from opposing counsel

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court punished Jason by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand. 

 

Joey’s 2nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • During opening statement told jury his client had engaged in a discussion about robbing a person
  • Trial judge asked Joey’s client if had consented to Joey telling jury he talked about robbing a person to which he denied he had done so, which caused judge to declare a mistrial
  • Revealed client confidential information to DA without client’s knowledge or consent
  • Failed to reconcile his trust accounts quarterly
  • Failed to identify the client and source of funds on trust account
  • Failed to post deposits on individual ledgers for each client
  • Failed to communicate with client
  • Failed to promptly disburse entrusted funds
  • Failed to Failed to reconcile his trust accounts
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Joey!)
  • Made false statements to clients

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Carolina Supreme Court punished Jason by gifting him with a complimentary censure.
