U.S. Judge Dana Christensen of Montana; one of the good Gals

The state of Montana presented Dana L. Christensen with a law license in 1976 after she graduated from the University of Montana School of Law.

In one matter, Judge Christensen was assigned to hear a lawsuit brought forward by Tanya Gersh, a Jewish woman against Andrew Anglin, the publisher of the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer website. (Luke O’Brien)

As a real estate agent, Ms. Gersh sued Anglin for invasions of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and for violating Montana’s anti-intimidation laws. The case states that Anglin used his white supremacist/neo-Nazi website to target her after she became involved in a real estate dispute with Sherry Spencer, the mother of white nationalist Richard Spencer.

Anglin’s neo-Nazi supporters sent over 700 threatening/harassing communications to Ms. Gersh, some of which are as follows:

  • “Day of the rope soon for your entire family.” said one.
  • “Six million are only the beginning.” (Ms. Gersh is Jewish)

In addition to the disgusting comments above, Anglin’s followers played Ms. Gersh recordings of gunshots when she answered her phone. They pasted images of her and her son superimposed over the gates of Auschwitz and threatened to hold an armed neo-Nazi march through the small ski town where Gersh lives.

Anglin hired so-called attorney Marc Randazza, a sympathizer who volunteers to represent bigots, anti-Semites

When Gersh sued Anglin a few months later with the help of the Southern Poverty Law Center, he went on the run. According to his attorney, Marc Randazza, Anglin is now based in a secret overseas location.

Subsequently, Judge Christensen ruled that Ms. Gersh’s lawsuit against Andrew Anglin, cannot be dismissed on First Amendment grounds. Anglin the Bigots hopes of using free speech to shield him from liability for his anti-Semitic harassment of Ms. Gersh was dealt a serious blow by Judge Christensen.

Kudos to Judge Christensen for having the courage and fortitude to issue a just and proper ruling in this matter, a ruling that likely did not sit well with a number of folks in Montana who support someone of Anglin’s ilk.

As we speak (ca. December 2018), Judge Christensen continues to sit as a U.S. District Court judge in Missoula, Montana.
