Attorney John Downey of Hartford, CT; Dufus, bigot

The Connecticut Supreme Court provided John Downey with a law license in 1978.

During his eight year tenure on the bench, Judge Downey was intent on proving his bona fides as a die-in-the-wool bigot. One day after Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina passed away by saying he was a “great American.”

This so-called “Great American” was the originator of the “Southern Manifesto” that urged defiance of the 1954 Supreme Court ruling on school desegregation. This “Great American” also spoke for 24 hours on the Senate floor in opposition to civil rights legislation, the longest filibuster in Senate history.

Calling Strom Thurman a “Great American” is akin to calling the late Jeffrey Dahmer a “Great Cook.” Here tell that Jeff's rump roast recipe is out of this world!

As a result of the outrage engendered by Johnnie’s despicable comments, his name as a nominee for the Appeals Court was withdrawn. Moreover, Johnny did what any cowardly bigot would do as a result of the media coverage of his comments; he resigned from the bench before the voters had an opportunity to send him packing.

As we speak (ca. Jan 2012) Johnny the Bigot operates a law firm called Rome McGuigan, P.C that offers mediation and arbitration services at One State Street in Hartford.

I’m confident that if you’re looking for someone to mediate a claim you may have against an African-American and/or a Latino that, John’s your man.
