Attorney Eve Markewich of New York City; ethical leprechaun Eve Markewich received her law license in New York in 1988 after graduating from Columbia Law School.
In 2007 the Westchester Guardian published an article titled: “Carvel Niece Fights Westchester Judicial Machine.” The story reported that Eve had itemized in a New York Law Journal article how many different violations of professional ethics and disciplinary rules the attorneys in the Carvel probate case had inflicted on Agnes Carvel.
The Westchester Guardian article also noticed that Eve ran for Surrogate Judge in Manhattan. Luckily for the heirs of decedents in New York City, Eve lost the primary to Kristen Booth.
Eve’s New York Law Journal article was dated Feb. 14, 2005 and titled, “Getting Grounded on Ethical Dilemmas.”
In her article, Eve mentioned repeated violations of ethical rules by attorneys and/or Surrogate Court judges. Despite the fact Eve had a sworn duty to report each instance of attorney and/or judicial misconduct to the proper authorities, she failed to do so.
In my opinion, Eve is personally responsible for the victimization visited upon the heirs of decedents in the Westchester Surrogate’s Court because she chose to “remain silent.”
Even though Eve’s misconduct was published in the New York Law Journal, the Attorney Disciplinary Commission never took any action against her for serial violations of the Code of Conduct.
As we speak (ca. Jan 2012) Eve practices law at the law firm of Markewich and Rosenstock LLP at 18 East 48th Street in New York City.
