Attorney Dennis Stolfo of Chicago; ethical goblin

The state of Illinois presented Dennis James Stolfo with a law license in 1972 after he graduated from DePaul University School of Law.

The Disciplinary Commission found Denny guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Pursued client claim aggressively after it should have been clear, particularly from the client's deposition testimony, that the case had no reasonable chance of success
  • Filed pleadings in which he made unsupported factual assertions, which were inconsistent with his client's testimony
  • Circuit imposed monetary sanctions on Denny for frivolous conduct
  • Unsuccessful in having court-imposed sanction discharged in bankruptcy
  • Continued file pleadings and actions seeking to challenge the sanctions, on grounds which had been rejected before, in final court decisions
  • Frivolous conduct caused appellate court to impose further sanctions
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Denny by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2018) Denny practices with the Stolfo Law Offices at 20 North Clark Street in Chicago, Illinois.

CAUTION: Denny does not carry legal malpractice insurance
