U.S. Judge James Singleton Jr.: Alaska’s 2017 Double Dipping Porker of the Year Winner

The state of Alaska presented James Keith Singleton Jr. with a law license in 1964 after he graduated from the University of California Berkeley School of Law.

In 1990 President George H. W. Bush was duped into appointing Jimmy to a federal judgeship in the District Court of Alaska.  Jimmy didn’t get this appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in Alaska. He got it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

It should be noted that Jimmy has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past fifty-years (ca. 1970 thru 2018). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Anchorage area was about to offer Jimmy a good paying job.

In addition to his annual $208,000 federal salary, Jimmy also collects an annual judicial pension from Alaska of approximately $134,000 and an annual Alaska Supplement Annuity Plan earnings of about $20,000, thereby giving him a total annual income of $362,000. Also, Jimmy’s wife receives an annual Anchorage School teacher pension.

It should be noted that in January 2005 Jimmy opted to assume the position of senior status judge. This meant that he was only required to work 10 hours a week while collecting 100% of a full-time judge’s annual salary, which as of 2018 would be $208,000.

And lastly, if you’re a federal or even a local government employee, wouldn’t you love it if you could take on senior status in your job after 10 years and continue to collect 100% of your pay? Sorry boys and girls!

Even though you’ll never be able to collect this unconscionable financial benefit, you can take solace in the fact that you will be required to continue to pay taxes to support it.

As we speak (ca. July 2018), Jimmy continues to sit as a retired Senior U.S. District Court Judge in Anchorage, Alaska.
