Attorney Philip Virga of Redondo Beach, CA; slacker, loser

The state of California presented Philip Thomas Virga with a law license in 193 after he graduated from the University of West Los Angeles Law School. West Los Angeles is a 4th tier school dedicated to serving losers that couldn’t get accepted into mainstream schools like UCLA, UC Davis, USC or the University of San Francisco.

The California State Bar Court found Phil guilty of the following misconduct, all of which relate to his conduct while practicing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

• Misconduct significantly harmed client
• Engaged in multiple acts of wrongdoing
• Failed to obtain informed consent for limited scope client representation
• Failed to communicate scope of representation and basis of his fee
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to explain matter to extent reasonably necessary to allow the client to make an informed decision regarding the representation
• Failed to obtain client consent where his responsibilities were materially limited due to a conflict of interest
• Accepted compensation for representing a client from someone other than the client without obtaining informed consent from the client
• Allowed person who paid him to render legal services to another to direct/regulate his professional judgment in rendering said legal services
• Failed to abide by client’s decision concerning the objectives of the representation
• Failed to consult with his client about the means by which the client’s objectives are to be accomplished
• Failed to promptly inform client of any decision or circumstance with respect to which the client’s informed consent was required
• Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
• Improperly shared legal fees with non-attorney
• Assisted non-attorney in the illegal practice of law

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the California State Bar Court punished Phil by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the California State Bar Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Phil.
