Attorney J. Marcus Whitlark of Columbia, SC; ethical troll

The State of South Carolina presented J. Marcus Whitlark with a law license in 1984 after he graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School.

Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found Marcus guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Used means having no substantial purpose other than to embarrass, delay or burden a third person
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to keep separate property wherein two or more persons claimed an interest
  • Failed to promptly distribute funds to interested parties
  • Failed to correct a false statement of material fact or law previously made to a tribunal
  • Violate or attempted to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Marcus by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2018) Marcus practices at 1522 Lady Street in Columbia, South Carolina.
