Attorney Robert Costigan of Philadelphia; convicted thief

The state of Pennsylvania provided Robert W. Costigan with a law license in 1957 after he graduated from Harvard University Law School.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found Bobby guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Convicted of mishandling an estate
  • Convicted of two counts of theft by deception
  • Convicted of two counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds he received
  • Convicted of two counts of theft
  • Convicted of one count of criminal conspiracy
  • Convicted of one count of aiding in the consummation of crime
  • Served one year in prison

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court punished Bobby by ordering that he be disbarred; however, after several years passed the comedians sitting on the court voted to reinstate Bobby’s law license.

Apparently, the jokesters sitting on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court were of the opinion that Bobby had a constitutional right to earn a dishonest living practice law. Thanks to these fools, the good folks in Philly have been provided with yet another convicted felon practicing law in their area.

As we speak (ca. March 2018) Bobby practices at 7344 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
