Attorney Jeffrey Pickering of Houlton, ME; liar, repeat offender

The state of Maine presented Jeffrey Pickering with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from the University of Maine Law School.

The Panel B of the Grievance Commission of the Maine Board of Bar Overseers found Jeff guilty of the following misconduct.

Jeff’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Serious and continuing neglect of decedent’s estate
• Made misrepresentations [lied] to his clients
• Made misrepresentations [lied] to ethics investigators (Screw you, said Jeff!)
• Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court punished Jeff by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

Jeff’s 2^nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• On three separate occasions, failed to search Registry of Deeds for client prior to closing the transactions to client’s Realty Trust
• Neglected to record deed from Realty Trust in timely manner
• Neglected to record mortgage in timely manner
• Failed to devote adequate preparation for closings required under contemplated transaction
• Engaged in conduct unworthy of an attorney (OMG, this is news?)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court punished Jeff by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
