Attorney Maureen Mulligan of Boston; cheerleader for Attorney Misfits

The state of Massachusetts presented Maureen Mulligan with a law license in 1990 after she graduated from the New England School of Law.

In one matter, Maureen was the chair of a Disciplinary Panel that was charged with determining whether attorney Edward O’Sullivan should have his law license reinstated. O’Sullivan was a repeat offender who was adjudged guilty of misusing client funds for personal use and convicted of bank fraud and found guilty of an assortment of egregious misconduct. For further information on attorney O’Sullivan, visit the URL listed at the end of this article.

Unbelievably, Maureen voted to reinstate O’Sullivan’s law license even though he was a convicted fraudster and serial liar. In her written ruling, she laughingly said:

  • O’Sullivan presented an outstanding case for his fitness to practice law
  • Has the moral qualification to practice law
  • Demonstrated good moral character
  • O’Sullivan has donated furniture to a charitable organization (So what does that have to do with proving he’s fit to practice law Maureen?)
  • O’Sullivan’s reinstatement will not be detrimental to the integrity and standing of the bar (What integrity and standing are you speaking of Maureen?)
  • O’Sullivan’s reinstatement will be in the public interest (Yeah Maureen, just like Roy Moore’s election to the U.S. Senate will be in the public’s interest)

It appears Maureen missed her calling as a standup comedian by claiming that a thieving liar and convicted felon met the qualifications to be an attorney in Massachusetts. Her comment that the public’s perception of the bar would not be harmed by Owens’ reinstatement is basically true since most of the public holds the bar in total contempt.

And lastly, it is obvious that Maureen is of the firm belief that O’Sullivan has a constitutional right to earn a dishonest living practicing law.

As we speak (ca. May 2018) Maureen practices with Peabody & Arnold at 600 Atlantic Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts.
