Attorney Phillip Brutus of Lauderdale Lakes, FL; check bouncer

The state of Florida provided Phillip J. Brutus with a law license in 1987 after he graduated from Suffolk University Law School.

The Florida State Bar found Phil guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, while handling a dissolution of marriage proceeding, Brutus disbursed funds from the former husband to the client and himself, and the remainder to costs, without a court order or settlement agreement indicating how the money would be disbursed.

In another matter, Brutus wrote at least three checks on insufficient funds bank account (rubber).

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Florida Supreme punished Phil by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Florida are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Phil was never criminally charged for writing bad checks.

As we speak (ca. September 2017), Phil practices with The Brutus Law Group PA at 4000 North State Road in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.
