Attorney Matthew Stephens of Okemos, MI; thieving slacker

The state of Michigan provided Matthew John Stephens with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from the University of Detroit.

The Attorney Discipline Board, Ingham County Hearing Panel #6 found Matty guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Neglected client’s misdemeanor matter
  • Neglected a client’s civil matter
  • Failed to return unearned fees upon termination (thief)
  • Failed to appear at hearings on behalf of three separate clients
  • Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Matty!)
  • Neglected legal matters entrusted to him
  • Failed to seek lawful client objectives
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to communicate with clients
  • Failed to advise clients of status of their legal matters
  • Failed to explain a matter to the extent necessary to permit his clients to make informed decisions regarding the representation
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Failed to deposit unearned fees in client trust account
  • Knowingly disobeyed the rules of a tribunal

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Matty by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2017), Matty practices with MJMA Legal Solutions PLLC at 3803 New Salem Avenue in Okemos, Michigan.
