Judge Kurt Pomrenke of Abingdon, VA; ethical gnome

The state of Virginia provided Kurt Pomrenke with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from the University of Richmond Law School.

The Virginia Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission found Kurt guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Kurt became involved during the federal corruption trial of his wife, Stacey Pomrenke, the former CFO of BVU Authority. At that time, federal prosecutors sought to have both Kurt and Stacey found in contempt for contacting prospective trial witnesses in the weeks before her trial began. (David McGee, Bristol Herald Carrier)

Shortly after Stacy’s conviction on 14 felony counts, federal prosecutors named Kurt as a “suspect” regarding possible “contempt of court, obstruction of justice and witness tampering” charges. At the time, prosecutors released an audio recording of a voicemail telephone message Kurt left for a BVU employee who worked for his wife, urging her to say positive things about his wife at the trial. That voicemail message said:

  • “When you’re testifying in that trial, there might be a couple things you could do that would really help Stacey.”
  • “If you could kind of slip in, when you have a chance, little remarks like how Stacey did a great job or Stacey really took care of the employees or Stacey is just honest.”
  • “Any kind of little comments you can make to support her.”
  • ”Stacey was the one who really looked out for the employees or just something like that — even though it’s not directly in response to a question — if you could figure out a way to do that, I really think that would help and make a huge difference.”
  • “Sorry you’re caught up in this, but we feel real good about the outcome and sure appreciate your help. Thank you. Bye.”

All that’s left now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Kurt by the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Virginia Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. July 2017), Kurt remains sitting as a Juvenile and Domestic Relations judge for the 28th District Court of Virginia in Abingdon, Virginia.
