Raising taxes on the wealthy is “cruel thing to do” sez Grover Norquist

Grover Norquist is a right-wing ideologue who has become rich (net worth at least $2 million) by forming and running a group called Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). In truth, ATR is nothing more than a front organization that believes that millionaires and billionaires should pay minimal taxes or none in some instances.

When it was recently (early July 2017) that White House advisor Steve Bannon had advocated for raising the tax rates on the wealthiest Americans, Grover decided to attack Stevie during an appearance on CNN.

After donning a pair of Industrial Strength Knee Pads provided to him by the Billionaire’s Benevolent Association, Grover groveled in honor of America’s billionaires and millionaires by saying:

  • “It’s a particularly cruel thing for Bannon to do.”

Grover then had the chutzpah to laughingly claimed that lowering taxes on wealthy Americans would lead to more jobs and that increases would hurt growth. Clearly, Grover missed his calling as a standup comedian.

Grover went on to say:

  • “It might make somebody feel good to know that somebody else is paying higher taxes.”
  • “That’s a cruel thing to do when you’re hurting somebody.”

Yeah Grover, it would be real hurtful when someone who earned $3 billion in one year had to pay federal taxes at a rate of 15% while my daughter pays at a rate of 28%.

It makes you want to cry thinking that a billionaire earning $3 billion had to pay $450 million in federal income taxes. After all, how do we expect the poor feller to get by on a measly 2.55 billion in any given year?

And lastly, maybe Grover should propose legislation mandating that anyone earning less than $50,000 a year be made to donate 5% of his or her annual income to a fund to offset federal taxes paid by America’s Patriotic Billionaires.
