Attorney Richard J. Simon of New Brunswick, NJ; Dumbo, ethical elf

Beginning in 2005 attorney Simon was defense counsel for Angel Jimenez who was charged with murder.

Jimenez’s family hired Simon to defend Angel and initially paid him $10,000. By July 2007, Simon claimed he was owed $50,000 in fees. Jimenez’s brother told Simon he was going to refinance a property he owned in order to pay Simon $50,000, but only paid him $10,000 when the properly was sold.

By early 2008, Simon claimed he was owed more than $83,000 in fees and costs. He then asked Judge Joseph Rea to allow him to withdraw from further representing Angel Jimenez. Judge Rea ruled against Simon, stating the case was too far along (actually ready for trial).

After Judge Rea ruled against him, Simon then filed a lawsuit against members of Jimenez’s family that hired him. As part and parcel of the lawsuit for fees, Dick the Slick added Angel’s name to the lawsuit in order to force Judge Rea to allow him to withdraw from the murder case.

Dick’s scheme in adding Angel as a defendant bore fruit when Judge Rea changed course and allowed him to withdraw. However, Judge Rea then filed an ethics complaint against Dick the Slick.

The Office of Attorney Ethics subsequently found Dick guilty of misconduct in filing a lawsuit against his client Angel in order to create a sham conflict of interest so he could get out of the case. Put simply, Dick was guilty of perpetrating a fraud on the court and obstructing the fair administration of justice.

As a consequent of his misconduct, the enablers on New Jersey Supreme Court punished Dick by gifting him with a reprimand. In other words, the Court found it acceptable for an attorney to perpetrate a fraud on the court and to obstruct justice. Isn't New Jersey a wonderful country?

As we speak (ca. July 2011) Dick the Loser continues to practice his so-called brand of law at 142 Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
