Attorney Elaine Carlis of Bloomfield Hills, MI; ethical goblin

The state of Michigan presented Elaine R. Carlis with a law license in 1988 after she graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

The Tri-County Hearing Panel found Elaine guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to maintain complete records of client funds for five years
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Engaged in conduct exposing profession to contempt (What’s new?)
  • Failed to comply with client information requests
  • Failed to keep clients informed as to status of legal matter
  • Failed to deposit advance fees/costs into client trust accounts
  • Violated or attempted to violate Rules of Conduct and/or knowingly assisted or induced another to do so

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Elaine by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. May 2016), Elaine practices at 7 West Square Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
