Rep. Phil Roe: Today’s “Lunatic” Award Winner

This isn’t the first Award presented to Phil. In the past, he has been the recipient of one (1) Award in the Screwball category. That awards can be viewed by going to the Screwball category.

Phil succeeded in duping the voters in the greater Kingsport area into electing him as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2016.

In early 2017, Phil sponsored legislation that was subsequently passed by his fellow Loons allowing mentally ill military veterans to purchase guns.

After the 2007 mass shooting at Virginia Tec, President George W. Bush signed a law that required federal agencies such as the VA to add the names of people deemed “mentally defective” to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, to block them from buying weapons. (Michael McAuliff)

“Mentally defective” persons were defined by the VA as being recipients of disability benefits because:

“They lacked the mental capacity to manage his or her own financial affairs regarding disbursement of funds without limitation, and is either rated incompetent by VA or adjudged to be under legal disability by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The VA’s action led to around 174,000 vets being added to the mandatory background check system for a variety of reasons. The VA estimated in 2015 that 19,000 of these folks suffer from schizophrenia, 15,000 have severe post-traumatic stress, 11,000 suffer from dementia, about 5,000 are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and 4,000 are severely depressed.

Despite the VA’s findings of severe mental disabilities, Phil the Ass-Kisser decided that it was in everyone’s best interest to allow these mentally unstable vets to have their names stricken from the background check system so that they could purchase handguns, automatic weapons and/or assault rifles.

In support of his loony legislation, Phil had the chutzpah to say:

  • “Denying veterans who have fiduciaries their constitutional rights will not end veteran suicide.” Roe said.
  • “And it’s unfair to paint all veterans who may need a fiduciary with the same broad stroke, and to assume that just because someone needs assistance with their financial affairs that they may also be violent and a danger, or that they’re contemplating suicide. That’s just plain wrong.”

What is truly amazing is the fact that Phil is a licensed physician. Apparently, when he attended medical school at the University of Tennessee the school didn’t offer any classes dealing with mental diseases or common sense.

Hopefully, the NRA (National Rifle Association) reimbursed Phil for the costs he incurred in (1) purchasing a pair of Industrial Strength Knee Pads and (2) in replenishing his supply of Industrial Size Tubes of ChapStick.

And lastly, maybe Phil and those of his ilk in Congress should consider passing legislation prohibiting Screwballs, Liars, Lunatics and assorted A-Holes like Phil from holding public office.

Congrats Phil; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s most disrespected “Lunatics”; you are far too humble
