In one matter, Tony began representing a client in a divorce case and agreed to help her draw up a will. At the time of the representation, Tony embarked on a relationship with the client which lasted more than a year. However, it abruptly ended after an argument at Tony’s house erupted into an argument followed by a physical attack.

During the argument, Tony struck the lady in the face; hit her multiple times; tried to prevent her from taking anti-anxiety medication; and physically restrained her from leaving his home. She called 911 when he briefly left her alone in the room, then hid the phone.

Both Tony and the lady were unaware the 911 call had gone through and was being monitored and recorded. The lady was treated at a hospital emergency room after police arrived, Doe suffered a black eye; bruising on her face, neck, arm and abdomen; and other facial injuries.

Subsequently, Tony pled guilty to assault causing great bodily injury.

The former client then sued Tony for legal malpractice and domestic assault which led and a jury awarding her nearly $500,000.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary 18-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (March 2017), Tony practices in Winterset, Iowa.
