Obama arrogant to take Utah’s land
In December 2016, President Obama used the Antiquities Act of 1906, to designate the 1.35-million-acre Bears Ears area in Utah as a national monument.
In response, Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz feigned outrage during a recent (early Jan 2017) appearance on the Fox News Comedy Network, Jason said:
Jason then engaged in the following Q&A with Fox’s comic host Sandra Smith in regards to investigating Obama’s action.
JASON: "I'm the chairman of the Oversight Committee, I can investigate anything at any time. I can actually issue subpoenas and drag them ..." SANDRA: "Are you going to?" JASON: "Absolutely!"
It should be noted that the decision to create the national monuments means that the area, that contains some Native American artifacts, will be protected from energy drilling in the future.
Jason’s whining is on behalf of multi-millionaire farmers and/or polluting members of the energy sector. He certainly doesn’t give a damn about the native American’s who were forced off the land years earlier. In fact, I doubt that Jason is concerned about representing the interests of members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Pueblos, White Mountain Tribe or the Jicarilla Apache, all of whom have cultural ties to Bears Ears.
