Gov. Scott Walker: Today’s Il Duce Wannabee Award Winner

Congratulations to….

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker
Today’s “Il Duce Wannabee” Award Winner

FYI: Il Duce is none other than the late Italian dictator and despot Benito Mussolini.

Shortly after the Wisconsin legislature passed what can charitably be called “union busting” legislation, Gov. Walker immediately signed it into law.

However, those representing the public employees, filed a lawsuit in Madison seeking an injunction against implementation of the law based on what they claimed was an illegal act in passage of the law by the state senate.

Subsequently, Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi granted the injunction thereby prohibiting the implementation of the legislation until further order of the court. She also prohibited the Secretary of State from publishing the new legislation, which is the final step in the enactment of a law in Wisconsin.

Il Duce then decided to basically tell Judge Sumi to “go to hell.” In fact, Walker’s conduct is reminiscent of the following dialogue in the 1948 classic “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,” which goes something like this:

Three Wisconsin union busters played by Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Scott Fitzgerald and Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, encounter some shady looking, heavily-armed union prospectors in the Namekagon River region in Wisconsin.
  1. “Il Duce,” the leader of the union busters tell the prospectors (members of AFSCME): “We are federales. You know the mounted police.”
  2. AFSCME president Gerald McEntee responds by saying: “If you’re the police [law]. Where are your badges?”
  3. Il Duce responds, “Badges [laws]? We ain’t got no badges [laws]. We don’t need no badges [laws]. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges [laws].”
When judge Sumi was informed that Il Duce and the Fitzgerald brothers didn’t much give a damn about her injunction, she responded by chastising the Gang of 3 for ignoring her earlier order to halt the law’s application. Judge Sumi then said, “Apparently that language was either misunderstood or ignored, but what I said was the further implementation of the (the law) was enjoined. That is what I now want to make crystal clear.” She then threatened sanctions against Il Duce if he continued to thumb his nose at the court’s order.

Now folks, what do ya think would happen to you if you totally ignored a court order? Think maybe you’d be found in contempt of court and hauled off to jail? Dern tootin you would! Apparently, Il Duce believes that law doesn’t apply to him, right?

Congrats Scotty; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as a practicing Il Duce Wannabee; you are far too humble.

The Dawg~
