Judge Russell Alred of KY; corrupt Il Duce Wannabee and ethical gnome

Recently, the Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission charged Judge Alred with 20 counts of ethical violations, including misconduct in office and violations of the code of judicial conduct. Several of the misconduct charges are set forth below.
  1. Judge Alred tried to politically weaken County Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop by ordering a grand jury investigation into allegations of drug trafficking in his office. As expected, Alred ordered the investigation less than one month before a Democratic primary that pitted Grieshop, who was seeking re-election, against Judge Alred’s cousin, Denny Pace. How sweet is that?
  2. Judge Alred also required criminal defendants last year (2010) to donate $500,000 to the Harlan County Fiscal Court to pay for a water park. How cool is that?
  3. Threatened a state social worker with a grand jury investigation or indictment
  4. Used his influence to urge the Harlan County Fiscal court to hire his cousin as a drug court employee
  5. Engaged in fundraising from companies and individuals for the purchase of playground equipment at a local school
Judge Alred’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defenses

In his response to the judicial commission, Il Duce (aka, Benito Mussolini) laughingly claims that “several individuals” who were unhappy with his election had brought “frivolous and mean spirited” charges against him.

On March 18, 2011, Judge Alred had the chutzpah to file a federal lawsuit asking the judge to issue an injunction barring the judicial commission from continuing the case against him. Alred argued that the commission’s rules are unconstitutional and that it has been unfair to him, violating his rights.

Alred then goes on to ask the federal court that the commission be barred from disclosing any of the allegations against him.

Obviously, Judge Russell D. Alred missed his calling as a stand-up comedian.

Hopefully, the judicial commission along with the Kentucky Supreme Court will order this certified loser to be tossed from the bench.
