Attorney Scott Zimmerman of Chapel Hill; convicted druggie

The state of North Carolina presented Scott D. Zimmerman with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Scotty guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  • Accepted $5,000 loan from client w/o advising client to seek outside advice
  • Engaged in a pattern of misconduct
  • Misconduct involved selfish or dishonest motive
  • Engaged in prohibited business transaction with client
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Committed criminal act adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
  • Pled no contest (guilty in effect) to possession of cocaine

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Scotty by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 3-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Disciplinary Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Scotty.

As we speak (ca. November 2016) Scotty practices at 405 Clayton Road in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
