Retired Judge Nancy Phelps of Annapolis, MD; scofflaw

The state of Maryland presented Emory A. Pitt Jr. with a law license in 1968 after she graduated from Washington and Lee University Law School.

The Maryland Commission on Judicial Disabilities found Nancy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to comply with the law
  • Failed to promote confidence in the judiciary
  • Improperly received real estate commissions from cases adjudicated before her
  • Failed to avoid conduct leading to appearance of impropriety
  • Failed to disqualify herself from matter when required to so act
  • Received improper compensation while employed as judge

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Nancy by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. August 2016), Nancy continues to sit as Chief Judge, Orphans Court of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, Maryland.
