Attorney Anthony Mahoney of Lake Success, NY; convicted thief

The state of New York presented Anthony Michael Mahoney with a law license in 1971 after he graduated from Seton Hall University Law School.

The Appellate Division Disciplinary Panel found Tony guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Tony was by a jury in the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey, Union County, of one count of theft by failure to make required disposition of property in the third degree, one count of misapplication of entrusted property in the third degree and two counts of forgery in the fourth in the fourth degree.

Subsequently, Tony was sentenced to three years' probation, 500 hours' community service, and a fine of $5,000, plus assessments. Tony's conviction resulted from his failure to pay clients their $50,000 portion of a $75,000 settlement and deposited into his attorney trust account. The forgery convictions stemmed from his forgery of the clients' signatures on the settlement check.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Appellate Division Disciplinary Panel punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.
