Judge William Kent of Central Islip, NY; lifetime porker, misogynist

Unfortunately, the state of New York presented William J. Kent with a law license in 1964 after he graduated from Fordham University Law School

It should be noted that Billy has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the past forty-eight (48) years (1968-2016). Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the Suffolk County area was about to offer Billy a good paying job.

In one matter,Judge Kent was assigned to a divorce case involving Margaret and Stuart Besen, both of whom agreed that their marriage was beyond repair; however, they decided they would remain in their suburban Suffolk County home, living in separate rooms and keeping away from each other while sharing custody until a resolution could be reached. (Peter Green and John Mazor, The Guardian)

Shortly thereafter, the situation began to fall apart. Stuart Besen, who was a politically connected attorney had an anger problem according to Margaret, which caused her to obtain an order of protection that prohibited Stuart from harassing her. A couple of weeks later, Stuart went into Margaret’s bedroom and hovered over her as she slept. Stuart was arrested for violating the protection order, which led to getting temporary possession of the marital home.

In the following years, Margaret’s desire for an equitable settlement eroded as she fought a series of seemingly biased decisions by Billy against her. Initially, Judge Kent ordered Stuart to pay $200 weekly in child support and $500 in monthly car payments; however, when Stuart failed to make the payments and the car was repossessed, Judge Kent did absolutely nothing about it. Kent also didn’t take any action when Stuart only paid a portion of the support he owed, which left Margaret struggling to provide for her kids.

Margaret said that on occasions Stuart paid $200 a week, sometimes $175, sometimes $120. She went on to say:

  • “The church had given me vouchers for gas, and I was getting food from the food pantry.”
  • “One year I found on his tax returns he had made $528,000, and I am getting food stamps and trying to get groceries home on a bicycle.”
  • “It was extremely humiliating.”

Due to Stuart’s obvious political connections, Margaret was rightly concerned about his relationship with Judge Kent; however, she had no way of knowing if the relationship played a role in how Kent was dispensing rulings in her case.

Margaret’s concerns about the relationship heightened when she discovered something about the marital home. Judge Kent ordered the home to be sold and the proceeds to divided evenly. Since the house was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, Margaret was in a position to receive a substantial amount of money. Subsequently, she found an online listing offering the home for sale with Judge Kent’s wife Patricia listed as the broker. The home was listed for $749,000 with Patricia Kent’s photo and contact information on the Realty Connect USA website. At the time, the home was $15,000 in arrears on its property taxes. In 2013 Margaret was evicted from the house and lives in a small apartment. She has never received one penny for her lawful interest in the property.

This is exactly the kind of perverted justice that one would expect from a lifetime porker and dedicated misogynist like Judge William Kent.

Given the deplorable track record the New York Judicial Commission, Judge Kent can be assured that he will never face any punishment in the unlikely event ethics charges are ever considered. This is true even if the Commission received irrefutable evidence that Judge Kent received financial rewards from Stuart while he was presiding over the divorce case. Put simply, the Judicial Commission is in the business of acting as apologists for Judicial Misfits.

As we speak (ca. July 2016), Billy continues to sit as a Suffolk County Supreme Court judge in Central Islip, New York.
