Attorney Solomon Wachtler of Central Islip, NY; convicted felon

The state of New York presented Solomon Wachtler with a law license in 1956 after he graduated from Washington & Lee University Law School.

The Appellate Division Disciplinary Panel found Sol guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Sol pled guilty in the United States District Court in Trenton, New Jersey to a violation of 18 USC § 875(c), a Federal felony, which states:

“Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.”

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Discipline Panel ordered that Sol be disbarred. Subsequently, the comedians on the Disciplinary Panel voted to reinstate Sol the Felon’s law license. Apparently, they firmly believed that Sol had an absolute right to earn a dishonest living practicing law.

As we speak (ca. July 2016), Greg practices with the Touro Law Center at 225 Eastview Drive in Central Islip, New York.
