The state of New Jersey presented David R. Carmel with a law license in 1972.

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics found Dave guilty of the following misconduct

In one matter ,Dave found it acceptable to fabricate a lis pendens (written notice of filing of real estate lawsuit) documents and affixing a court’s seal to it in an attempt to convince the IRS that its lien was junior to that of Dave’s client so that the IRS would then release its tax lien.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Dave by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

Because Attorney Misfits in New Jersey are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Dave was never criminally prosecuted for attempting to defraud the IRS.

As we speak (ca. July 2016) Dave practices in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
