Attorney Sue Browning of Auburn, KY; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee

FYI: Judge Roy Bean was an infamous Justice of the Peace and saloon owner in Texas who called himself the "The Law West of the Pecos." Roy was also affectionately referred to as the Hanging Judge.

The state of Kentucky presented Sue Carol Browning with a law license in 1976 after she graduated from Fordham University Law School.

Sue’s misconduct took place while she was sitting as a District Court judge for the Seventh Judicial District in Logan and Todd Counties. Said misconduct resulted in the Judicial Conduct Commission finding Sue guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Denied bail to 17 defendants, most of whom were charged with traffic offenses or minor misdemeanors
  • Illegally ordered 17 defendants held in jail w/o bail pending INS investigation regarding their legal status
  • Failed to provide 10 defendants with future court date after remand to jail w/o bail
  • Five defendants given court dates which were for 4 weeks later
  • The 17 defendants all releases via habeas corpus actions filed in higher court
  • Improperly met with law enforcement officers and ordered them to arrest individuals stopped for traffic offense if they could not furnish a driver’s license or other verification of their identity
  • Interrogated police officer who refused to follow her orders
  • Intentionally violated a defendant’s constitutional due process rights

Apparently, Sue is of the opinion that “due process” is the means by which the grass becomes moist in the am.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Kentucky Supreme Court punished Sue by gifting her with a complimentary fifteen (15) day suspension from the bench.

As we speak (ca. June 2016), Sue practices at 307 Quarry Road in Auburn, Kentucky.
