State Sen. Steve Southerland says, Bible to become Tennessee’s Official State Book

In early 2016), State Sen. Steve Southerland of Tennessee introduced legislation that would designate the Bible as Tennessee’s official state book.

Apparently, Stevie and those of his ilk in the Tennessee legislature are totally ignorant of the U.S. Constitution which explicitly mandates the “separation of church and state.”

I personally think that if Stevie and his cohorts are really interested in following the mandates of the constitution and still wish to name a state book that any of the following would seem to be appropriate.

  • The Bedwetter by Sarah Silverman
  • I am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert
  • America: A Citizens Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart
  • When you ride ALONE you ride with bin Laden by Bill Maher

And if any of the above are found to be unacceptable, maybe the following would garner favor with Stevie, et al.

  • Lady Chatterly’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence
  • The Neighbors Wife by Gay Talese
  • Three essays on the theory of Sexuality by Sigmund Freud
  • Sexual Behavior in the Human Male by Alfred Kinsey

And if none of the above are satisfactory, then Stevie should consider forgoing a state book in favor of a State Magazine. In that even, I would think that “Mad Magazine” would be a terrific choice.
