Attorney Melvyn Estrin of New York City; convicted of bribery

The state of New York presented Melvyn Jay Estrin with a law license in 1968 after he graduated from the New York Law School.

The Departmental Disciplinary Committee found Mel guilty of the following misconduct.

On at least two occasions, Mel knowing paid money that he knew was going to be used to bribe adjusters at two difference insurance companies in order to expedite the resolution of personal injury claims.

Mel was subsequently was charged in an indictment with the class E felonies of commercial bribing in the first degree and scheming to defraud in the first degree, as well as two counts of commercial bribing in the second degree.

After pleading guilty to one of the second degree bribery counts and negotiating a plea to scheming to defraud in the second degree (both class A misdemeanors), he was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge and a $2,000 fine.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the State Disciplinary Commission punished Mel by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2015), Mel practices at 225 Broadway in New York, New York.
