Attorney Philip Kaufman of New York City; ethical gremlin

The state of New York presented Philip S. Kaufman with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from George Mason University Law School.

In one matter, Phil and his so-called law firm was ordered to pay $135,000 regarding Phil’s conduct during a deposition wherein he repeatedly instructed a witness not answer questions.

Chancellor Andre Bouchard imposed the sanction in a September 2014 order. The $135,000 is meant to cover the attorney fees incurred by the client opposing the lawsuit filed by Phil on behalf of his client.

The witness being deposed was another Kramer Levin attorney who was being questioned because he was alleged to be a central figure in past disputes between the litigants, two co-founders of a translation services company named TransPerfect.

As we speak (ca. October 2015) Phil practices as a partner with Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel at 1177 Avenue of the Americas in New York, New York.
