Attorney Peter Papoutsis of Chicago; ethical gremlin

The state of Illinois provided Peter Alexander Papoutsis with a law license in 1977 after she graduated from Suffolk University Law School.

The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission charged Pete with engaging in the following misconduct.

In one matter, Pete is accused of accessing the credit report of an opposing party without permission in a bid to obtain additional child support for his client.

An ethics complaint accuses an Illinois lawyer of accessing the credit report of an opposing party without permission in a bid to obtain additional child support for his client.

Pete was able to obtain the credit report from creditreport.com last using information obtained in pretrial discovery. After obtaining the document, Pete attached part of the report to briefs filed on behalf of his client.

The complaint cited a federal law making it a crime to knowingly obtain information from a consumer reporting agency under false pretenses.

Because Attorney Misfits in Illinois are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Pete has not yet been criminally charged for violating federal law.

All that’s left now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Pete by Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court.
