Attorney Joel Cohen of New York City; ethical elf

The state of New York presented Joel Steven Cohen with a law license in 1979 when he graduated from the New York School of Law.

The Departmental Disciplinary Committee found Joel guilty of the following misconduct.

• Commingled client funds with personal funds
• Mishandled client funds
• Failed to keep proper records of escrow accounts
• Improperly borrowed money from a client
• Failed to advise client to seek independent advice re: borrowing funds

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Committee punished Joel by gifting him with a complimentary censure.
