Attorney John Watson of Orange County; scofflaw, ethical leper-con

From 1989 through 2006, Watson was a Superior Court Judge in Orange County.

During his tenure on the bench he was repeatedly disciplined for a variety of misconduct, which is as follows:

1995 – Receives advisory letter for engaging in ex parte communications and for violating a defendant’s due process right

2004 – Receives another advisory in repeatedly making sarcastic, demeaning, and disparaging remarks towards attorneys

In February 2006, Judge Watson found guilty of using his courtroom clerk to perform the day-to-day management of two rental properties he owned and for using court resources (computers, etc.) and facilities to run his personal real estate business.

In fact, Judge Watson instructed his tenants to call him at his courtroom number and used his court clerk as a contact person for tenants. The clerk received and returned calls from tenants and relayed messages between Watson about matters such as inspections and repairs.

The court made calls to various businesses and the LA Housing Authority regarding Watson’s properties. He ordered the clerk to prepare at least 40 letters and legal notices in connection with his real estate business. He also had his clerk and court bailiff accept rental payments in the courtroom and they were instructed by him to issue receipts when rent payments were received.

Even though Judge Watson was clearly guilty of several theft-in-office offenses for using public employees and government resources to operate his personal business, he was never criminally charged nor is there any indication that he was ever made to reimburse Orange County.

This again proves beyond all doubt that judges are held to a lower standard of conduct then we are.

Oct. 2006 – Privately admonished for sending an e-mail to other judges that was perceived as biased and prejudiced

Nov. 2008 – Receives a complimentary public admonishment for engaging in the same misconduct he was disciplined for in 2004.

John Watson now practices law out of an office in Huntington Beach. If you’re looking for a moron that gets a kick out of degrading people, then John’s your man.
