Attorney Anthony Traini of Providence; ethical gremlin

The state of Rhode Island provided Anthony M. Traini with a law license in 1975 after he graduated from the New England Law School.

The Statewide Grievance Committee found Tony guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter,Tony represented an individual who was arrested in Portugal for extradition to the United States after being charged in U.S. District Court with conspiracy to import marijuana and possession of more than 1,000 pounds with intent to distribute.

Tony traveled to Portugal to meet with his client and they agreed upon a fee and the scope of representation. When Tony returned to the U.S., he met with an associate of the client who delivered $250.000 in cash to the respondent, $185,000 of which was kept as a retainer against the respondent's fee.

U.S.law requires a business to file a report with the IRS of cash received in excess of $10,000. Tony knowingly failed to timely file the required report with the IRS in connection with the $250,000 cash transaction.

Subsequently, Tony entered into a settlement agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in regards to a civil complaint filed in U.S. District Court wherein he agreed to pay $100,000 in civil penalties.

As a consequence of him misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Statewide Grievance Committee punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. June 2015) Tony practices at 56 Pine Street in Providence, Rhode Island.
